ODOT – Oklahoma Co. – Column Repairs
Owner: Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation
This work was performed on the old I-40 highway in the Bricktown area of OKC (that is no longer in place as of 2013) and was the first FRP job performed in the state of Oklahoma. Corrosion of the reinforcing steel was present in the columns which led to spalling of the concrete. Due to the railroad tracks we could not encroach on the right of way clearance, so an FRP application was designed to accommodate. Spalled concrete was removed, the substrate & reinforcing steel was prepped by mechanical means, spalled locations were repaired via dry shotcrete application, E-Glass material was applied (to contain the repairs) and a UV resistant coating was applied to protect against the elements. Prior to the demolition of this structure the columns looked like the day they were completed in 1997.
