ODOT I-244 Tulsa

Bridges

Owner: Oklahoma Department of Transportation
System: Patching, FRP and Protective Coating
Completed: 2007

On an ODOT project in Tulsa County, the beam ends on the bridge were beginning to deteriorate due to failed joint sealant on the deck above, which exposed them to chlorides.  The affected/spalled locations were chipped (to remove loose material), the substrate was prepared by mechanical means and a prepackaged mortar material was applied via a dry shotcrete method.  Upon completion, an FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) system was utilized to wrap the beam ends for containment and structural integrity.  A protective coating was then applied to aid against the elements.
